Fitness

What can be said for Aikido can probably be said about all martial arts and as such martial arts training aims to result in several benefits to trainees, such as their physical, mental, emotional and spiritual health. Through systematic practice in the martial arts a person’s physical fitness may be boosted (strength, stamina, flexibility, movement coordination, etc.)as the whole body is exercised and the entire muscular system is activated. Beyond contributing to physical fitness, martial arts training also has benefits for mental health, contributing to self-esteem, self-control, emotional and spiritual well-being

Self Defence Tools

Aikido as any other martial arts can help in Physical self-defense which is defined as the use of physical force to counter an immediate threat of violence. Such force can be either armed or unarmed. In either case, the chances of success depend on a large number of parameters, related to the severity of the threat on one hand, but also on the mental and physical preparedness of the defender. This include the armed an unarmed self defence. Many martial arts are also seen and used in Law Enforcement hand to hand training. For example, the Tokyo Riot Police’s use of aikido.

Self Confidence Tools

While more conventional treatments such as weight training and psychotherapy are also of significant benefit, martial arts therapy can embody unique traits that other therapies don’t incorporate into their practice. For example, in children with low self-esteem, this therapy can simultaneously develop areas such as self-defense skills (to defend against physical bullying), physical fitness, instructions on how to handle stressful scenarios in a physical or mental context, and self-confidence, through successful applications of martial technique, such as Aikido or kata.

Self Esteem

Welcome

Hizashikan Aikido Dojo is situated in the city centre of Coventry , we are a group of individuals who practice the traditional martial art of Aikido in a friendly and safe environment.

Our aim is to build physical as well as mental skills using the Aikido art which applied right transition to our daily lives.

Hizashikan Aikido Dojo is a not-for-profit Aikido club focused on studying and improving our skills in Aikido; We only ask that students contribute to the periodic improvements required to maintain a quality training facility.

Hizashikan Aikido Dojo training takes place at the Boys and Girls club facility with free and ample parking spaces.

Currently we train every Saturday , please see our training times here, and we have students of all ages, some experienced with other martial arts, and some with no experience at all.

Although there are many styles of Aikido,  our base Aikido is Aikikai style that is complemented by Takemesu Aiki Bukikai to include weapons training, however the lesson always start with intermediate to intensive physical warm up, this also benefits us physically and mentally, nothing like a great work out.

The atmosphere is friendly and relaxed, though we do follow traditional dojo  etiquette.

Hizashikan Aikido Dojo is open to everyone, regardless of age, gender and racial or religious orientation.

Please feel free to come along and watch or join any of our classes – they are all open and everyone is welcome. Your first 1 week is free. Aikido is one of those art that when seen seems easy, until you step on the mat then body struggles to match that image in the brain, so we invite you to step in to have a full experience.

We welcome students from all associations no matter your grade or style.
